City's living room: Karolina Riječka Pier briefly becomes a park by the sea
The people of Rijeka will soon have a new place to socialize by the sea! We took the initiative and it was immediately approved, so we joined forces to make it happen. City of Rijeka, Hospitality Forum with support Port Authority of Rijeka i KD Cistoća The Karolina Riječka Pier was designed as a small marine park and the city's living room.
This is another novelty of the 27th edition of Fiumanka, which aims to further open the Rijeka waterfront to citizens and turn the port area into a place to socialize and spend time by the sea.
During the Fiumanka and the celebration of St. Vitus' Day, the Karolina Riječka Pier becomes a place where you can watch the regatta, listen to music, sit by the sea, and drink a cocktail with a view of the sails and the harbor. The youngest will also find a special place, as they will have a place to play and socialize. Although the sea park will only last a few days, it has already been included in the list of perfect locations in the new Rijeka app Parkich as a place where kids can play and hang out, moms and dads can have a drink and watch the ships together.
The idea for a different concept of space arose from the desire for Fiumanka to be not just a sporting event at sea, but another form of community bonding.
We wanted to show how even small interventions, with a lot of goodwill and togetherness, can transform a public space into a beautiful place where people want to be and socialize. We are pleased that during Fiumanka, the waterfront will become the city's living room, a place to meet and relax for all generations.
All partners participated in the design of the space in order to create a small temporary park in the heart of the Rijeka port, believing that exactly these types of facilities can bring the city even closer to the sea and create new value for the citizens and guests of Rijeka.
The Marine Park at the Karolina Riječka Pier is part of the broader idea of this year's Fiumanka, which aims to transform Rijeka into a meeting place by the sea during June through a series of new programs.
